The Priory of Our
Savior organizes a number of activities throughout the year. While
the ultimate objective is to raise money and esprit de corps for our
charitable work, we try to accomplish this with events that are fun
and sometimes thought-provoking. One example of the latter was a presentation
at our 2004 Spring Convent by a local art historian who was a long-time
student of Da Vinci’s masterpiece “The Last Supper”.
His discussion of the work’s history and restoration in the context
of the widespread fascination with Dan Brown’s best-seller The
Da Vinci Code was most interesting. In 2006, our Fall Convent guest
speaker was Nonie Darwish, an Egyptian Muslim by birth, and today an
American citizen, author, and in the media as an outspoken opponent
of the grip that Islamic terrorism has held for decades on Arab culture.
Our 2009 Fall Convent focused on the plight of Christians struggling
to survive a de facto policy of ethnic cleansing under the new government
in Iraq, and featured a documentary on the subject just released by
a member who is an award-winning film maker.
